Hundreds rally across Tampa Bay as part of nationwide ‘Workers Over Billionaires’ protest

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Hundreds of people gathered across Tampa Bay on Monday, voicing concerns about the state of democracy. In St. Pete, participants said this Labor Day, they are uniting and making their voices heard.

Around 500 people filled in designated spots spelling out their message along the beach at St. Pete Pier, all with a shared purpose: to unite and rise.

“We’re coming together as Americans. We are uniting and we’re rising up. We’re rising up against the ridiculous anti-democratic unconstitutional antics that are coming at us fast and furious out of Washington and out of Tallahassee,” Amy Weintraub with St. Pete’s League of Women Voters said.

Organizer Weintraub said an issue of concern for her is President Donald Trump’s plan to end mail-in voting. Weintraub said it’s depriving someone of their right to vote, as the president argues that ending the practice will make elections more secure…
