Bean Point closed to swimming after latest fatality

ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. (WWSB) – No-swimming signs have been posted at Bean Point as city and county officials actively work to ensure a safer experience for those on Anna Maria Island.

In the month of August, Anna Maria Mayor Mark Short tells ABC7 that there have been six incidents involving swimmers, two of them fatal.

The latest incident happened Aug. 31 when a 20-year-old man drowned after being swept away with the tide while swimming about 100 yards offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. His body was found the next day after a massive search by the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies…
