DASHCAM: Florida sergeant saves wandering child from busy highway

NORTH PORT, Fla. (CBS12) — A heart-stopping scene unfolded recently when a Florida sergeant spotted a small child running alone along the busy US 41, sparking a dramatic rescue that could have ended in disaster.

The North Port Police Department (NPPD) said that the child, who has developmental delays, had wandered away from home during the night, evading the safety measures the family had put in place, despite the parents’ best efforts to keep their child safe.

According to NPPD, while on patrol, the sergeant noticed the child dangerously close to the road. “I’ve got a small child running in the road,” he communicated over the radio, just moments before a vehicle nearly struck the child…
