Uncertainty reigned during fake threat

WELLEN PARK — When Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at SCF-Venice on Tuesday for a report of a possible shooter on campus, deputies did not know who they were looking for, nor did they know in what buildings students were taking classes.

The report ended up being a fake call — one of many so-called “swatting” calls law enforcement received during the week — but not before around 20 deputies, some with rifles drawn, evacuated students and ran through campus.
