Plans to merge two Sarasota school hits stiff opposition from parents, students

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Hundreds of worried students and parents turned out at the Sarasota County School Board meeting Tuesday, hoping to stop a suggested merger of two Sarasota schools.

The county is considering a proposal under the state’s “Schools of Hope” program, that allows privately operated, publicly funded charter schools to operate in public schools that are underutilized.
