EXCLUSIVE: Nik Wallenda reveals technical issue during UTC high-wire performance

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – High-wire performer Nik Wallenda said he encountered technical problems just before Saturday’s Criss Cross Skywalk at University Town Center that left nearly half the wire unstabilized during his performance.

Wallenda told photojournalist Larry Phillips that a lift was unable to reach its intended position, leaving about 45 feet of wire without stabilization as he and his sister Lijana crossed paths mid-air above Cattlemen Road.

“The first part of the walk, my wire was not stabilized because the lift wasn’t able to reach where it was supposed to,” Wallenda said. “As I was walking, that wire was swaying under my feet rapidly.”…
