Veterans Day parade in Sarasota honors all who have served

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) – The cold weather didn’t impact turnout at this year’s Veterans Day Parade. Crowds lined up early near Main Street and Orange Avenue to secure a spot along the barricades.

“This is the biggest Veterans Day Parade that we have had in Sarasota so far. We had about 50 different units, almost all of the high schools and their bands and ROTC, not to mention the Sarasota Military Academy, which came with about 1,700 cadets,” said Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee Chairman Dan Kennedy. “As a community, Sarasota has always been very very good about honoring our veterans and that is what this day is all about, to honor all of those who have served.”

The parade ended near J.D. Hamel Park along Gulfstream Avenue, where a ceremony wrapped up the day’s events…
