SCHOOL DISTRICT: Students may face penalty for protesting

SARASOTA — After hearing students might be stepping out of class in solidarity of an upcoming demonstration, some Sarasota County Schools officials are looking at ways to discourage such behavior.

At Tuesday’s Sarasota County School Board workshop, Board member Bridget Ziegler voiced her interest in discussing the topic, suggesting students receive an unexcused absence for participating in a protest during the school day.
