VENICE — After a delay caused by last fall’s hurricanes, federal funding issues and the search for suitable materials, the renourishment of Venice Beach is back on track.
And the silver lining to the damage cause by the hurricanes is that the project is being paid for entirely by the federal government under the Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies program, according to a memo from City Engineer Jon Kramer.
Prior renourishments under the city’s 50-year agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, signed in 1993, have required local funding, which has been a combination of state, county and city money…
