NORTH PORT — North Port Police Sgt. James Shields, who saved the life of a child with special needs from a busy highway in October, has been named the nation’s law enforcement officer of the month.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund named Shields as the Officer of the Month for October after is heroic acts saw a 7-year-old heroically rescued on U.S. 41 late in the evening on Oct. 5.
