Clearwater woman killed after driver falls asleep on Sunshine Skyway

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol said a Clearwater woman was killed Sunday morning in a crash on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

It happened in the southbound lanes at around 4 a.m. just past the rest area.

Man charged after drugs, cash seized from Tampa home

A 21-year-old Pinellas Park man was driving a Chevy Colorado with a 27-year-old Clearwater woman and two other unidentified passengers.

FHP said the man fell asleep behind the wheel, at which point the truck veered off the roadway. He struck a tree and a guardrail, causing the woman to be ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries.
