SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A waterway closed for more than four decades that was recently reopened following Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene will remain open, according to Sarasota County officials.
Midnight Pass, located between Siesta and Casey Keys, was filled in over concerns of property damage in the 1980s, until storms allowed water to flow freely once again.

“This area hosts recreational benefits, certainly for boating… people will see wildlife changes and access to the gulf in that area that they haven’t had before,” said Rachel Herman, the Director of Environmental Protection for Sarasota County.
