Bradenton awarded $54.3 million from state for utility upgrades

BRADENTON, Fla. — Bradenton leaders want to invest a quarter billion dollars for infrastructure upgrades and just got a big boost from the state.

The city’s outdated stormwater and wastewater system has been neglected for decades, resulting in things like partially treated sewage from pouring into the Manatee River after heavy rainfall.

“Everybody says I say, ‘face it and fix it a lot,’” said Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown. “To me, that’s about what we’re going to do to face what we’re doing, fix it.”…
