Florida Contractor Arrested for Defrauding Elderly Hurricane Victims

A Bradenton contractor who targeted elderly residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton has been arrested on 13 felony charges, following an investigation by Bradenton Police.

In July 2025, Detective Michael Carpenter began investigating complaints from 14 residents of Seabreeze Mobile Home Park, aged 62 to 95. Victims hired Brian Michaud, operating as RedFin Construction, to repair damage to carports, lanais, roofs, and sheds, making down payments totaling $222,000. Michaud failed to complete any of the contracted work.

Further investigation revealed that Michaud was not a licensed contractor in Florida and had used another company’s license to operate. Financial records from October 2024 through April 2025 showed that Michaud spent significant funds—over $53,000—at casinos and for personal expenses, with minimal evidence of construction-related spending benefiting the victims…
