Florida teen undergoes 17-hour surgery at Johns Hopkins to remove 174-pound leg

BRADENTON, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida teen with a rare condition had her 174-pound leg removed in a life-altering surgery at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

The brave teen, 14-year-old Jasmine Ramirez, is at the beginning of a long recovery process and is expected to remain in the hospital for several months.

“My dad always told Jasmine if it came down to your life or your leg, we would choose your life,” her sister Anastashia Carrasquillo told FOX 13 News. They took the chance, and thankfully, thank God it went well. 17 hours we were all worried sick waiting in the waiting room.”…
