Florida Thomas The Train Rides

Each year, Day Out With Thomas™ turns the Florida Railroad Museum in Parrish into a full-on family festival built around one big moment: stepping aboard a real train pulled by a life-size Thomas the Tank Engine for a short ride through Florida’s backcountry scenery. For many families, it’s a first “real railroad” experience—complete with station announcements, boarding lines, photo ops, and the satisfying clatter of wheels on jointed rail—wrapped in a friendly Thomas & Friends atmosphere.

2026 Florida Railroad Museum dates (Parrish, Florida)

For the Florida Railroad Museum, the museum’s event listing shows these dates for the 2026 stop of the tour:

  • March 14–15, 2026
  • March 21–22, 2026
  • March 28, 2026

The Experience

Think of Day Out With Thomas as two things happening at once:

  1. A timed train ride with Thomas, where your ticket corresponds to a specific departure time, and
  2. An all-day activity zone, where you can spend the rest of the day meeting characters, watching entertainment, and letting kids burn off excitement between (and after) train rides.

At the Florida Railroad Museum, the event is designed to be approachable for families with toddlers and young kids, but it’s also surprisingly enjoyable for the train-curious adults who appreciate seeing how a heritage railroad runs a major special event—crowd control, loading, volunteers, concessions, and all.

The train ride: the “main event”

Your ticket includes one train ride with Thomas at the departure time you select. The museum notes that trains depart hourly starting at 9:00 a.m., with the last ride at 4:00 p.m. The ride itself is described as about 25 minutes—long enough to feel like a real excursion, short enough to keep little conductors happy.

A few practical details that matter on event day:

  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before your departure time, and note that boarding gates close 5 minutes before departure so the train can leave on time.
  • Boarding begins about 20 minutes prior to departure.
  • Seating is first-come, first-served (no assigned seats), based on your position in line.

If you’re planning your day, a good strategy is to arrive early, explore the activities, then ride Thomas mid-morning—or ride first and spend the rest of your time doing everything else without watching the clock. What else is included: characters, activities, and entertainment

Day Out With Thomas is more than just a train ride; the Florida Railroad Museum describes a full lineup of family games and activities, plus live entertainment, photo opportunities, lawn games, and an exclusive gift shop. One signature highlight is meeting Sir Topham Hatt (the “Controller of the Railway”), who appears for photos and greetings…
