SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – As the clock counts down to midnight, downtown Sarasota transforms into one of Southwest Florida’s most vibrant New Year’s Eve celebrations, drawing tens of thousands of people for a night filled with music, food, and community spirit.
The centerpiece of the celebration is the iconic Pineapple Drop Block Party, a longtime local tradition held at Lemon Avenue and Main Street. The event has become Sarasota’s tropical equivalent to Times Square, welcoming locals, visitors and snowbirds alike.
“It’s the biggest celebration in Florida,” said Ron Soto, fundraiser for the Downtown Sarasota Enrichment Association. “I invite about 40,000 of my closest friends to come out here and party and drop this pineapple.”…
