The Anna Maria City Pier was built in 1911 after being commissioned by Charles Roser, the inventor of Fig Newton cookies, and Will Bean, whose father, George Emerson Bean, was a homesteader on the island in the late 1800s and for whom Bean Point, at the north tip of the island, is named. It originally welcomed residents and visitors arriving to the island by steamship. During the 1910s and ’20s, it was also home to private residences and a bait shop.
