VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) – A Venice man is in jail after deputies say his ex-girlfriend found bombmaking materials in her home, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.
Alan West, 73, is charged with possessing, making or attempting to make a destructive device, and possession of explosives without a license. He is in the Sarasota County Jail under $1 million bond on each count, jail records show.
Deputies say they were called to a home in the 4000 block of Manfield Drive in Venice on Jan. 6. The homeowner, West’s ex-girlfriend, told deputies she had moved “large, suspicious coolers filled with various chemicals and fireworks,” onto her driveway after their recent breakup, a probable cause affidavit said…
