MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said it is seeing an increasing number of juveniles operating electric dirt bikes on public roads.
The agency said the vehicles are typically not street legal. Dirt bikes, whether gas or electric, often lack required equipment such as headlights, taillights, turn signals, mirrors and a horn, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.
Even bikes that have been modified with the necessary equipment must be registered with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and display a license plate to be driven legally on a public road, the agency said.
