Jury deliberates in Brennan Wakey murder trial after defendant chooses not to testify

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Brennan Wakey will not testify in his own defense in the murder trial for the 2021 killing of his then-boyfriend Colton Wright.

The jury began deliberating Friday after both the defense and prosecution rested their cases. The state concluded its case Thursday afternoon.

The judge ruled Friday morning to allow testimony from star witness Nick Trail and lead detective, Anthony DeFrancisco, who has since retired. Trail testified that Wakey pulled the gun first before Wright grabbed a margarita mix bottle. Trail also said he heard Wright say “shoot me so I don’t have to spend another minute looking at you” when Wright saw the gun…
