Blind Army veteran receives specially adapted home from Homes For Our Troops

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – A blind Army veteran who lost his sight during his third tour in Iraq will receive a specially adapted home from Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit organization that builds custom houses for veterans.

Army Sergeant First Class Aaron Cornelius served as a platoon sergeant when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded, injuring his eyes, face and head and leaving him blind. Cornelius has transitioned back to daily life without sight, but his current Bradenton home presents daily challenges including changing the thermostat, using the stove and arming his home security system.

Two years ago, Cornelius connected with the nonprofit and selected their “American Dream model” home…
