Slashed state grants for school district police revealed

SARASOTA — Despite being a leader in school safety in the state, Sarasota County Schools still struggles to stay afloat financially with underfunded state mandates.

The district’s own police department reports a staggeringly full plate when it comes to addressing bullying and vaping, campus security and county-wide support.

At the same time, some state grants have become too small to cover growing safety costs and still be split among public and charter schools in the district…
