VENICE — After several years of property acquisitions, the city will soon be in the position of having land to dispose of — and that may mean affordable housing on the way.
Fire Station 52 sits on about an acre of land at 200 N. Grove St. Built nearly 40 years ago, it’s in a flood zone and, with most of the growth in the city over the years occurring in the north and east, it’s too close to Fire Station 51, on the island, for the response times Venice Fire Rescue wants to maintain.
A replacement station, at 1545 E. Venice Ave., will be completed in about a year, Fire Chief Frank Giddens told the City Council at its strategic planning workshop Monday. It’s about 25% complete, he said…
