Sarasota charter boat captains protest new permit requirement

SIESTA KEY, Fla. (WFLA) — Sarasota County charter boat captains took part in a rally Wednesday at Nora Patterson Bay Island Park to oppose a new county rule that they say could hurt the future of the industry.

ā€œI’m a single owner operator, and I have a family to feed and what not, and I might not be able to afford it,ā€ said Tim Crowley, owner of Windward Fishing Charters.

The county voted unanimously to begin requiring permits for charter boat docking on public parks, a common place that captains ask their clients to park and meet them before heading out on the water…
