Local officials say state should let them do their jobs

VENICE — The state needs to stop eroding local authority and let city and county officials do their jobs, Mayor Nick Pachota and County Commissioner Tom Knight said at Friday’s Venice Area Chamber of Commerce 2026 Community Scorecard Breakfast.

Pachota, who’s running for the District 74 seat in the Florida House, said an understanding of the need for local control gained during seven years in city office is something he’ll take to Tallahassee if elected.

If he had a magic wand, he said he’d use it to make the state “leave local governments alone to do their thing” because local governments are closest to the people…
