Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office solves 1999 cold case, announcing arrest

SARASOTA, Fla. — Twenty-six years after an unsolved homicide left the Hunter family from Sarasota searching for answers, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 56-year-old Kevin Holloway, who Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman said is connected to the murder of Esco Hunter Jr.

In a press conference Thursday, Hoffman explained how reopening a murder case that dates back to 1999 had its challenges.

“I think the detectives will tell you that as more time passes, the more difficult these cases are to solve. And I would say perhaps in this case, time has helped us a little bit, as folks mature later in life and reflect on their involvement or their knowledge,” he said…
