Sarasota commissioners authorize attorney to investigate downtown recycling plant

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sarasota city commissioners voted Monday to allow their city attorney to investigate a recycling plant near the downtown area, following complaints from residents in surrounding neighborhoods.

Residents in neighborhoods including Coconut and Newtown said the plant has made their areas unsafe to live in. Complaints include asthma, construction debris in the air, and loud noises. Neighbors asked the city to have its attorney investigate what they consider a civil public nuisance.
