This month marks the 75th anniversary of the filming of Cecil B. DeMille’s Academy Award-winning film The Greatest Show on Earth right here in Sarasota. The movie, about the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus and the romance, drama and chaos behind the scenes, starred Betty Hutton, Charlton Heston, James Stewart, Cornel Wilde and Emmett Kelley, as well as the members of that year’s Ringling circus troupe, which included 1,400 people, hundreds of animals and 60 railroad cars’ worth of tents and equipment.
