SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Sarasota County jury has convicted Darryl Dye of second-degree murder with a firearm in the 2023 killing of his roommate, according to the 12th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.
Dye was sentenced to life in prison shortly after the guilty verdict was returned Friday, March 20, at the Sarasota County Courthouse, prosecutors said.
The trial began March 16 before Circuit Judge Donna Padar and ended March 20. The case was investigated by the North Port Police Department.
According to court records, Dye called North Port police’s non-emergency line on Aug. 7, 2023, and reported that his roommate was dead. When asked whether he would attempt CPR, prosecutors said Dye told dispatchers the situation “was beyond that.”…
