Sarasota County cuts two Breeze Transit toutes

SIESTA KEY, Fla. — Two bus routes are now discontinued in Sarasota County. One of them took people to the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, and the other was the only way to get on and off Siesta Key on public transit.

What You Need To Know

  • The county decided to cut both routes in an effort to reduce general fund spending by about 5 million to address a projected budget shortfall
  • Whether they live there full time or are just visiting, several people on Siesta Key say they used the 77 Siesta Islander to go grocery shopping and try restaurants off the island
  • The county says this route elimination will save at least $1.1 million over the next two years
  • Although the trolleys that go from Turtle Beach to the Village in Siesta Key will remain, this route elimination may make getting on and off the island more difficult

The trolley is one of the landmarks of Siesta Key.

Marko Radosavljevic has always recommended that guests in his rental properties use the Siesta Islander to get to the grocery store and try other restaurants off the island…
