Advocates raise alarm over elder financial exploitation following Sarasota arrest

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Senior advocates and locals are speaking out after a Sarasota caregiver was arrested in a case investigators say involves the financial exploitation of an elderly woman.

“It’s deplorable that they don’t have stronger laws yet,” said Graeme Dawson, a member of Senior Friendship Centers.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Taylor Leann Blair was hired in 2024 to assist an 84-year-old woman recovering from a knee injury. Deputies say she was given access to the woman’s credit card for necessary purchases and also had access to her personal computer…
