Board votes 3-2 against new housing, approves new industrial site

In a stunning reversal, Effingham County commissioners voted 3-2 against a development they previously approved two weeks prior. The decision was made during their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night.

Stanley Martin Homes was given the green light during the June 2 meeting to build a 1,000-home neighborhood on Zittrourer Road, an unincorporated area of the county. The project has drawn scrutiny from residents who live near the development, citing potential flooding and traffic congestion.
