Final suspect in DJ Fields’ murder identified

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) – The final suspect accused of murder in DJ Fields’ 2021 death has now been identified.

Messiah Anderson, who was arrested last July, was just 15 when the fatal shooting happened.

He had been housed at the Juvenile Detention Center in Columbia until last Friday.

Now 18 years old, he was booked at the Beaufort County Detention Center on charges of murder, attempted murder and first- and second-degree assault and battery by mob.

Fields, an 18-year-old student-athlete at Bluffton High School, was shot and killed, and two other teens were injured when suspects opened fire on the car they were driving along Bluffton Parkway.

Two men have since been found guilty of Fields’ murder: Ty Chaneyfield, who received a life sentence, and Jimmie Green, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Prosecutors have said Fields and his friends were not the people Green and Chaneyfield were targeting — an apparent case of mistaken identity.
