SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Savannah is taking another step toward inclusivity. A new space for children is being built, and it will be fully accessible for everyone.
Chatham County Little League and Chatham County Parks and Recreation have teamed up with a local nonprofit to design a new playground that includes features to accommodate those with physical limitations and their families.
Savannah Ambucs has been inspiring mobility and independence since 1941. They often provide adaptive tricycles for those unable to ride a regular bike, giving them opportunities to normalize family activity and exercise.
Over the years, Savannah Ambucs has provided 700 AmTrykes to those in need.
That’s why Chatham County decided they were the perfect partner to help design and create a new fully accessible and inclusive playground at Ambuc Park. The project has an estimated cost of $329,000. Savannah Ambucs has been fundraising for over three years and is excited to contribute $175,000 to get it done.
Although other playgrounds in the area may have some accessibility, this will be Chatham County’s first fully inclusive playground. It will have special features such as a wheelchair swing, an accessible zip-line and multiple all-inclusive climbing apparatus. They will also have a track around the playground for AmTryke usage.
