Francine Moffett was getting ready for church on Sunday, when her husband Percell came upstairs to tell her two men in uniform were at the door of their southside Savannah home.
“I just knew at that moment, when he said that, my baby was gone… I ran downstairs as fast as I could and just to see the two guys that was standing in my living room, and he was telling me that Breonna was gone,” recalled Francine, who dissolved into tears.
Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, the oldest of Francine and Percell Moffett’s four children, had only recently turned 23 years old when a she and two other U.S. Army reservists were killed in Jordan on Jan. 28, after a drone strike on their container housing unit at a support base known as Tower 22. More than 40 other soldiers who had been aiding in the containment of ISIS near the Syrian border also were injured, according to the U.S. Department of Defense, which continues to investigate the suspected Iran-backed attack.
