SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A toddler is dead after being reported missing Thursday in Chatham County.
According to the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), around noon, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1100 block of Bob White Road for a report of a missing 19-month-old boy named Saylor.
At the time, the toddler was being cared for by family members who notified police when they couldn’t find him.
CCPD said because of the boy’s age and the home’s location near woods and deep water, multiple units were called to the scene, including marine patrol, drone operators, mounted patrol and chaplain services, along with the Statesboro Police Department’s K-9 Unit.
An hour after police arrived, around 1 p.m., a member of CCPD’s Criminal Investigations Division spotted the toddler in the water near the home and jumped in to bring him out of the water.
The boy was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was later pronounced dead.
CCPD said it appears that the toddler wandered off, and no foul play is suspected.
