Taylor, Memorial Day ‘part ways’ after 2 seasons

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Memorial Day School and Coach Jaha Taylor “mutually agreed to part ways”, according to Memorial Day School Headmaster Angela Bhola. After the season, the school had not determined whether Taylor would remain the head coach, Bhola said in a phone conversation with WSAV. Bhola explained the reason for not extending Taylor was their “vision did not align.”

Taylor led the football program for the past two seasons. The Matadors went 1-9 overall in 2022 and lost in the first round of the GIAA Class A state playoffs. In 2023, Memorial Day went 5-7 overall and advanced to the semifinals of the state playoffs.

Taylor also led the track and field program. He also served as an assistant basketball coach.

Taylor’s decision came soon after he learned the Matadors would transition from 11-man football to 8-man football in the fall of 2024. Taylor said he learned of the decision from football coaches at other schools, Harvester Christian and Fullington, and not Memorial Day’s administration. He also claims he was not consulted about the move.
