SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV)- The Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity program personnel hosted their 52nd annual conference in Savannah. Senator Raphael Warnock was one of the special guests in attendance.
Warnock is a Savannah native, he says he was able to attend Morehouse College due to educational outreach programs that helped cover his tuition.
“I’m proud to stand here not just as a United States senator, but as a proud TRIO graduate,” said Warnock.
TRIO is a federal student services program targeted to serve and assist low-income and first-generation college students.
Warnock says programs like trio give students the resources they need to follow their dreams.
Event organizers say these programs have been in place for over 65 years, but there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done.
“We know what we are doing in terms of helping our students. We want to continue to do that, but we need everybody’s support,” said Dr. Sherontae Maxwell, SAAOP’s regional president.
