Lockheed Martin, an American aerospace company, has delivered the first of eight C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical airlifters to the Georgia Air National Guard. The delivery took place on February 5, 2024, during a ceremony. The 165th Airlift Wing, based in Savannah, Georgia, is the first unit in the state to operate the C-130. The new C-130J-30 Super Hercules provides enhanced capabilities.
Rod McLean, vice president and general manager for Lockheed Martin’s Air Mobility & Maritime Missions, spoke at the delivery. He stated that the new aircraft would enhance the capabilities of the Georgia Air National Guard.
The 165th Airlift Wing will now operate an all-C-130J-30 Super Hercules fleet. The C-130J-30, which has additional cargo space, will support various mission requirements. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed satisfaction with the delivery of the aircraft, which was built in Georgia at Lockheed Martin’s Marietta manufacturing facility.
The C-130J Super Hercules contributes significantly to Georgia’s economy, with nearly 2.7 million flight hours and a $2 billion annual investment. U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff emphasized the importance of the C-130J program and pledged continued support in Congress.
