SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) A Savannah icon has returned home.
After five weeks in Charleston dry dock, The Georgia Queen returned home on Saturday Night. She’s been out of commission since January 3rd, getting regular safety and maintenance checks.
Owner and C.E.O. Jonathan Claughton tells us every passenger vessel is required to be inspected every five years, “The Queen went through inspections with the Coast Guard where the hull and internal structures were scrutinized. All machinery, propellers, shaft, and rudders were all inspected and she passed all the inspections with flying colors.”
Built in 1994 in Homa, Louisiana the vessel originally operated as a casino boat on the Mississippi River.
The riverboat is 230 feet long and has four floors, three ballrooms, two decks, and can accommodate up to one thousand passengers. She offers daily lunch and brunch trips, sunset cruises, and specialty cruises on holidays.
The Georgia Queen will be taking passengers for their daily trips, the Valentines Dinner Cruise, as well as on Memorial Day and the 4th of July.
