One of the first Wawa locations in Georgia may be in Pooler, pending approval by city council at its next meeting. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the site plan for approval at its last meeting.
The gas station and convenience store will be on 2.3 acres and located at 1480 Pooler Parkway, where Pooler Parkway and Pine Barren Road intersect.
Wawa, which was founded in Pennsylvania has more than 1,000 other locations across the nation. It’s largely known for its food items like hoagies.
What Now Atlanta reported in December that other locations were planned across the southwest and coastal Georgia, including in Bainbridge, Hinesville, Brunswick and Jesup.
“I think Pooler is getting a lot of attention outside of our city limits as an up-and-coming city of diverse residents and businesses,” said Pooler Mayor Karen Williams. “I’m proud of the fact that Wawa sees Pooler as a place they want to bring their brand to.”
The approval of the site plan will be on the Pooler City Council’s agenda for their meeting next Feb. 20.
