BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — Wildwood Church Road is the latest battleground in the clash between developers and longtime residents in Bryan County.
A city council meeting on Monday night had people talking, with a proposal to add hundreds of new homes to the rural community on the meeting agenda.
“I don’t think people really understood how much it affected this area. On the entire length of wildwood church road, which is a dirt road, there was only 12-14 homes that were occupied…and when they’re talking about adding anywhere from 7 to 800 homes…” Ken Copi, a longtime Bryan County resident, said.
Some showed up ready to fight against a large-scale development project.
“There’s been no traffic studies. The company that was pushing this was offering nothing but ‘houses might look like this, houses might look like that,’” Copi explained.
However, right before the meeting– the proposal was stricken from the agenda. The mayor’s office says the developer pulled out of the project. Days later, the community is still reeling, anxious for what’s next.
