Sandfly BBQ receives local support after calls to boycott following Harris-Walz campaign stop

Savannah’s Sandfly BBQ last week drew praise and criticism after Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz stopped in for a bite of lunch while on their Georgia bus tour.

Some in opposition of the Harris campaign took to social media asking for patrons to boycott the restaurant.

Supporters of the restaurant, and likely the Harris campaign, showed up to the establishment on Saturday, with Sandfly posting on Facebook a line backed out the door waiting to get in.

“Already a line out the door!!” Sandfly BBQ’s Facebook read. “Thank you Savannah for all the love and support!! We love you ALL.”

Gov. Tim Walz, Harris’s VP nominee, shared a video on his TikTok account of the visit to Sandfly, where he stated to customers that he ordered brisket. He was also in search of a piece of caramel and pecan cheesecake.

Several supporters of local businesses took to Facebook and other social media outlets to show backing for several places the Harris campaign visited last week, including Kim’s Cafe, The Grey and Dottie’s Market.
