Savannah-Chatham schools on Tropical Storm Helene watch, will provide update on Wednesday

With another name tropical storm, Helene, potentially impacting the greater Savannah area by the end of the week, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SSCPSS) sent a notice to families around 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

SCCPSS will remain open on its “regular operational schedule” Wednesday, but will be monitoring Helene’s path with Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) .

The notice stated that “if the storm continues on the projected path, there is a potential for severe weather in our community later this week.”

The district plans to provide an update by 2 p.m. on Wednesday if it determines changes to the operational schedule are required. The district said it is “poised for a shift to virtual learning if necessary.”

Families should monitor the district’s parent notification system and all SCCPSS communication channels including sccpss.com and social media pages.
