Hilton Head Island Kiwanis to host 39th annual Chili Cook Off

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) – The 39th annual Hilton Head Island Kiwanis Chili Cook Off & Jeep Island is set for Saturday.

Local chefs and others will get to show off their cooking skills — and you get to decide who wins.

It’s a fun family event for all, but it’s about much more than just food. The cook-off benefits groups like the Boys & Girls Club and more.

“You know, we bring the kids to the event because they come here to the club and they cook the chili themselves. And so of course we have to get them to see the fruits of their labor,” said Ryan Wise with the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island . “So when they come to the event and they see just the way this community supports those organizations themselves and other organizations throughout the Lowcountry, it’s super beneficial for them to see that our programs, we have so many going on right now with our kids.”

The club has racked up quite a few wins over the years. Wise said it’s all thanks to a secret recipe.

“You know, it’s for a great cause, but there is a lot of competitiveness,” said Pete Nardi with Hilton Head Island Kiwanis .
