Effingham County Schools is asking for the community’s help in naming its new elementary school. The new facility will be constructed on Blue Jay Road between Blandford Crossing Subdivision and Blue Jay Commons Subdivision.
In a video released on the school district’s Facebook page, Superintendent Yancy Ford said the district is asking the community to submit ideas for the new elementary school, which will open Fall 2026. The deadline to submit a name for the new school is Nov. 1 and suggestions can be submitted on the district’s webpage .
“As we look at what we want to name the school, I think it’s important to involve the community in that,” said Ford. “The students are why we’re here. We are asking you as a community to be involved in the naming of that school.”
The school district grew by just over 300 students in the past year and Ford suspects that number will continue to grow in the future. The new school will hold 1,200 students.
“Usually when families move here, they have elementary aged children,” said Ford. “In Effingham, we believe in small class sizes, especially at the elementary level. We have added on at SEMS to accommodate growth. We are currently adding on at ECHS and have plans to add on at SEHS to accommodate the growth as well.”
