SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin verbally committed to the University of Georgia on Friday at Eckburg Gym on the campus of Savannah Christian Preparatory School.
Griffin said it was a relief to make this decision.
“It’s been a long and critical thinking process,” Griffin said. “People blowing up my phone 24/7. I have like over 2,000 text messages. It just got to a point where it was too much for me. I was ready and I knew for a fact where I was going.”
At the press confernce following his decision, Griffin said he had not yet talking to head coach Kirby Smart or current UGA and former Savannah Christian defensive lineman Warren Brinson, but said he expects to talk with them sometime today.
Griffin, whose top three included Miami and Southern California, is set to take an official visit to Georgia later this year.
According to Maxpreps, through six games this season Griffin has 26 solo tackles and assisted on seven more for a total of 33 tackles. This includes 17 tackles for loss.
