Bluffton Police lieutenant receives prestigious international award

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) – A Bluffton Police lieutenant has received a prestigious award from the International Association of Chief of Police.

Lt. Michelle Mayers is among the recipients of the worldwide 40 Under 40 Award which recognizes law enforcement professionals under the age of 40 who demonstrate leadership, commitment and excellence in their field.

“I am deeply honored,” said Mayers. “No one achieves anything alone and I am so proud of my colleagues, team, and community. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for the Bluffton Police Department and for a community which is receptive to innovative and creative ways to enhance public safety and continuing improve the relationship between the police agency and those whom we serve.”

Mayers, the first African American female lieutenant in the history of the Bluffton Police Department, has been with the agency for 14 years.
