18-year-old arrested in 2023 Savannah shooting

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that happened last year.

According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), officers responded the night of Sept. 7, 2023 , to W 32nd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard where they found an unconscious person lying on the ground.

The victim, a juvenile, was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

SPD said U.S. Marshals arrested Malikye Jalyn Heyward, 18, in the case on Monday. He has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

“I want to thank both our investigators and the U.S. Marshals,” stated SPD Chief Lenny Gunther. “Our officers and the marshal’s tenacity and professionalism in this case is laudable.”
